I looked at your picture in Japan...you handsome devil! So, all you need to do is lose about 100 lbs. and you'll look just like that again. Therefore, from now on, you will only order salad and water at the Black Sheep.

  Great job, Uncle B.
Loved the entire site. I especially liked the detour back to Japan & all that history, and of course, all the family photos (old & more recent), and the cinematic smorgasbord of earlier New York.
Amazing how the images are so crystal clear after so many years, preserving so many fascinating sights/sites/insights & memories.
Thanks for creating this wonderful labor of love!
xxoo,

Loved the "Sammy's" pictures. My dad & his brother were waiters there in the '50's. (Louie & Ben Fischer). They wore the "jailbird" shirts & derbies. In fact it looks like my uncle Louie sitting on the sidelines (wearing all white) w/some other fella in one of your photos!

Thanks for the site, particularly for the photos of Sammy's Bowery Follies. I lived at Sixth Avenue and Houston years ago and Sammy's was one of my pub crawling haunts. Your photos brought back memories.

Your work knocked me out--fantastic. Going thru each series was a great experience. The "smorking" story reminded me of the flyer I got in CA for someone whose work would result in a "beautiful yark"--we haven't had a yard since. Thank you for sharing your work and regards to you and Dora, Liz Cotton

Burt: Jeff told me about your site, and I am just knocked out by your work. Would love to catch up with you and get your advice on how to transfer older film/negative work into digital...clearly, you did it right!
Mostly, congratulations on such a strong body of work, and thanks for sharing!

Great photos from Sammy's Bowery Follies. Sammy was my grandfather and I'm fascinated by the images by Weegee, Model and now I realize, you!

Burt...I had forgotten that you knew Lisette Model...I also met her years ago through Lee Friedlander and a late publishing friend of mine, Ed Otto, who also studied with her...By the way, Lee has a major retrospective opening at MOMA as well as a film he wrote and directed opening within a few weeks...I own a number of his photographs as well as a couple of Walker Evans and Gary Winogrand that I'm thinking of auctioning or selling but haven't quite decided yet...your photographs are great and I look at the ones you took of Joel, Beth and Lisa very often....if I can figure out how to e mail photos, I'll send the 9 grandchildren...
