Nursery schools operate on the philosophy that children from two to five learn best through play. During his first day at school, the child begins his adjustment to group play activity. Even the equipment he is given has been selected because it is ideally suited for use by the children playing together. Play materials are usually of the non-mechanical kind, since the mechanical toy is designed to be wound and looked at, rather than manipulated. Nurseryschool toys stimulate a child's imagination, call for action on his part, and help him to explore the world in which he lives. After a full day's program, the child usually welcomes his return trip home to Mother. It has been a full day.
