With excited anticipation, the child looks forward to his first day at nursery school. As Mother dresses him, she tells him that during the day other people will be taking care of him but that when nursery school is over, she will bring him back home. On the ride to school before he starts the day's activities, the knowledge that Mother will be there at day's end helps him to adjust to the new routine. His adjustment is easier if his mother can stay with him for part of his first day or first several days at nursery school. Some children can get along alone.
